It had been curiosity that led him to the mountains in the southwest. He’d heard stories of a dragon who had bonded with a female shining one long ago. And one with a male before that. He wanted to see one of the forest ones himself. His early years had been spent in the far north of Eldras among his kin. Though he had seen much of the continent, he’d never travelled to see the glowing two-legs in their big city. The ones at his home had arrived just before he’d hatched. He and the other hatchlings had played long with them. But he’d wanted to see these others. To see the people who had convinced the green dragon to share himself with one of them.

He'd first arrived two weeks ago and had visited several times since. There had been a man. The prince. Still young in their own years, but so much older than him. His iron-grey eyes were bright, intelligent, yet the man, the prince, had never seen the world. He’d instantly liked him.

Now, he was back, and the pull to open to him was stronger than ever. This prince, he wanted to communicate with him, and now he understood that other dragon, the one who’d bonded with the man’s own grandmother.

Mazen tilted his head and rested a hand on his muzzle. “What are you thinking?”

He’d know soon enough. He reached out too, not with claw, but with mind and latched onto the man.

Mazen’s eyes widened, and a broad smile lit up his features. He bowed his head. “Thank you.”
